How your data is handled

01The short version

• We store what the app needs to work: your account and the datasets you upload.
• Your datasets are private to your account.
• There are no ads, no analytics and no third-party trackers. Fonts and scripts are served from this site.
• You can delete any dataset, or your whole account, at any time.

02What is stored

• Your account: name, email address, a one-way bcrypt hash of your password (never the password itself), and when the account was created.
• Each dataset: its name, column names, the rows as uploaded, the current rows, one earlier version so the last change can be undone, and a log of the last 20 operations with their row and cell counts.
• Request logs: the server records each request’s method, path, status, duration and a request ID to diagnose problems. File contents are not written to logs.

To slow down abuse, the server counts recent requests per account, or per network address when signed out. These counts are kept in memory for a few minutes and are not saved to the database.

03How it is used

Your information is used to run the service: to sign you in, to show, clean and export your datasets, and to keep the service available. Files are processed on the application server when you upload them or apply a fix. They are not sent to third-party services, sold, or used for advertising.

04Who can see it

Only your account can open your datasets; requests from any other account are answered as if the dataset does not exist. The operator of this deployment runs the database, so its administrators have technical access to stored data. See security for how access is protected.

05Cookies

CleanYourDataset sets a single, strictly necessary cookie, cyd_session, which keeps you signed in for up to 8 hours. It is only sent to the app’s own API. There are no analytics, advertising or third-party cookies, so there is nothing to opt out of.

06How long it is kept

Your account and datasets are kept until you delete them. Deleting a dataset removes it, including its original rows and history, straight away. Deleting your account removes the account and every dataset in it.

07Your choices

• Take a copy: export any dataset as CSV from the workspace.
• Correct it: rename a dataset, or fix its contents with the cleaning tools.
• Remove it: delete a dataset, or delete your account from the account menu. Deleting is immediate and cannot be undone.
